Clients ask me all the time, “what is the difference between hardscape and softscape?” Hardscape elements are just that, “hard” such as bricks, wood, concrete, stones, and other materials. Pools, decks, patios, rock gardens, and retaining walls are all considered hardscape and a vital design element for the overall Landscape Plan. Hardscape elements are extremely important for extending and improving your outdoor living experience.

The term landscaping is often used when the correct term should be softscape. Softscapes encompasses grasses, shrubs, trees, vegetable gardens and other vegetation. Working together softscape and hardscapes are elements which make up the Master Landscape Design Plan.
